Focus: Self-Expression
Goals: Expressive art activity for a family to think about and celebrate their family unit.
Materials Needed:
- Computer with internet access
- Printer
- Printer Paper
- Modge podge
- Small Canvas
- Additional art supplies for decorating – paint markers, acrylic paints, magazine cut-outs, glitter pens/glue
Instructions:
- The first step is to talk as a family and have everyone share ideas that they think represent the family – favorite activities, foods, holidays, and any adjectives that help describe the family unit. Write this information down so you have it on hand.
- Go to a word cloud creator online – one can be found at wordart.com.
- After beginning the activity by clicking on the “create now” icon, you can start entering words in the “type a new word” fields. You can input 10+ descriptors.
- Once you have included all of the words your family came up with, click on the “visualize” bottom to generate a word cloud.
- You can further customize the word cloud by choosing font, size options, shapes, and colors.
- Print the word cloud and cut into the shape desired.
- To continue the activity, you can create a canvas backdrop for the art using various art materials.
